Question by Melissa: Future “Stay at Home Mom” needs advice on ideas for working at home…?
I am planning on staying at home with my next child. But am in need of ideas or suggestions for jobs that I can do from home. I am an interior designer and could possibly do that from home…but would like some ideas of jobs that are more computer related and could be done at anytime, day or night…

Offended by term “stay at home mom”?

Question by Nancy: Offended by term “stay at home mom”?
My mother-in-law sent out a New Year’s Newsletter and in it she said I was a “Stay at home mom”. I have never thought of myself as a stay at home mom and for some reason find it a little offensive… I don’t know why…or maybe I’m just not used to it.

My mom was always around with us when we were growing up but we NEVER thought of her as a stay at home mom and no one EVER called her that…..maybe it is just a ‘new’ term to me….but I don’t like it. Plus, I have a business I run out of my home (and make as much as my husband) so it also implies I don’t work….

To me moms who work are “working moms” and moms who don’t are ‘moms’. I don’t understand the need to label a thing like that…

Does this seem unreasonable? Anyone else feel this way? Maybe I am just upset that she sent it out to so many people….. Grr.

How did you make the transition from a “working mom” to a “stay at home mom”?

Question by Full of Id: How did you make the transition from a “working mom” to a “stay at home mom”?
Did you have a financial plan? Did you take a leap of faith and hope that all would be ok?
All my friends that stay home say, “It just works out.” But I can’t imagine how taking away 45% of our monthly income will just work out. I’d love to hear other’s experience with YOUR transition.

It was basically a leap of faith. In a few daycares in my area, there have been shaken baby syndrome cases and child care workers drugging children and such, so i decided I’d rather have little money and a healthy baby, vs. lots of money and a sick child who was hurt. That’s what made me decide to leave my job and become a full time mom.
