Question by jazzzjew: Should I file taxes if I am a full time student and single mom?
I do not work. I live off of scholarship and loan refunds each semester. I am a single mother of 1 child.
Is it even worth the time to file? Should I expect some type of refund? If I start to do the paperwork and find I am not generating a return, am I doing something incorrect?

Play around on H&R Block.com, it is really easy. It will tell you how much you qualify for. You may be able to get EIC or something like that. It doesnt cost anything unless you submit it.

Question by rainwriterm: I can’t be a “single mom”, so what should I do?
I am married, and for the most part happily, so I’m not literally a single mom. My husband has been going through a period with his work, though, where he has to be working pretty much all day in order for his division of the company not to fail and for him to keep his job. For the past couple of months it has been pretty habitual that he is up and working between 8-9am and working until, on good days, 9-10pm, and on bad days until 2-3, or even 4am. He’s able to do a lot of his work from home since most of it is through the internet, but he is working a ridiculous amount.
I can’t handle being a pseudo single mom. I can not be Mom with out help, and ideally without his help. Emotionally and physically I can’t burden the responsibility of taking care of my toddler on my own. I need help, and often, he can’t help because he is too busy working. I’ve tried working with him and explaining that I need his help, but his responses are nearly always something like “I need to get this done, and if I don’t get this done we lose the client, and if we lose the client the company will fail, and we won’t have a job, won’t be able to pay for the house, won’t be able to pay for food, and will die. You’d be a lot more unhappy if I lost my job.”
I understand he is under a lot of stress, but we didn’t go into having children under the condition that he simply finance them and leave every other of their needs up to me, and I am not cut out to be a single mother.
So, what suggestions do you have for me? I do have some family close, but we don’t trust my Mom to be with our son for more than an hour or two at a stretch, and my aunt works full time and has responsibilities of her own.

hon, if he’s working hard those kinda hours; you are just gonna have to buckle down and make do for a while…can u imagine it from his perspective? i am sure he would rather be chilling out having family time, but doesn’t sound like he even sleeps…

Single Mom – Should A Single Mom Date Or Not Date?
What should I tell my kids about me dating? Is this guy ready to meet my kids? Am I ready for him to meet my kids? Are my kids ready to meet him? How long should I wait to tell him more about my kids? Questions. Questions. Questions. Questions. A single mom has to decide when it’s the right time to mesh her kids with her dating life. Most of the time not only do they have to deal with their own questions, they have to deal with the opinions of their parents or other family members and friends. All of these thoughts, feelings and opinions can be taken into consideration, however the ultimate decision should come from the single mom and not what any one else thinks she should do. Single mom dating shouldn’t be too stressful. It should actually be a way for the single mom to relax not to bring stress into her life.
Let’s deal with first things first. The single mom should ask herself how she feels about her kids meeting her date. A single mom has that single mom intuition. This gut feeling can be used as an indicator. If you feel now is not the right time then now is not the right time. If you feel that now may be the right time maybe you should sleep on it for a few more days. However, if you are sure that now couldn’t be a better time then there shouldn’t be anything keeping you from following that single mom intuition. You can bring it up in casual conversation and ask your partner how they feel about the whole thing. If they are a little antsy maybe you should hold off and let them tell you when they are ready. You don’t want to rush anything and you certainly don’t want to force your date into doing anything they don’t want to do. If you do it will only come back to haunt you in the end and you may end being a single mom forever. Always remember to take your partners feelings into consideration.
If you find that you need a more professional opinion on dating as a single mom, you can seek out the help of a matchmaker. A matchmaker has most likely seen what works and what don’t work in the dating world. They can offer a single mom advice on how to handle certain situations to get proven results and when a relationship or a person isn’t a good one for them. A matchmaker can also find a few good choices for the single mom. They usually are equipped with a database of individuals who are compatible with the single mom and hold a promising future. This can eliminate a lot of the riff raff and wasted dates the single mom has to experience. Being able to offer valuable advice and promising matches a matchmaker could be just the choice the single mom needs to make to enhance her dating experience and dating knowledge.

Question by Jae Lynn: Why do people like to say “I’m a hard-working, single mom” like they should be applauded?
What about people who did it the right way around, and either didn’t have children or got married before they had children? Why do single moms get easy breaks and welfare? Why punish those who make the right choices, instead of commending people who went astray and ended up on the “right” track?
Why should they be applauded for taking care of their responsibility? It’s their job to take care of what they create. How about applauding people that know how to use birth control and abstinence.
i’m not trying to be mean. i have friends who are single parents. what i AM saying is that stop patting people on the back. we make kids, we take care of them. no one should be congratulated for taking care of the kid they created. it’s common sense.
a broken leg is different. that is by chance, or luck. getting pregnant is by choice unless your raped which then i feel sorry for you. but i wasn’t there having a fun time in the bed, single moms were, so how can i feel sorry for them?

Question by Hoekom Jy My Haat: Should a distinction be made between “single mothers” and “unwed mothers”?
I don’t know why but it perturbs me when I see unwed mothers call themselves single mothers. To my way of thinking, a single mother is a widowed or divorced woman raising her kids alone. And an unwed mother is just that; some slattern who gets pregnant without benefit of marriage.
Am I too old fashioned?
Best answer:
Answer by anne s
slattern ?
maybe the distinction should be made Between mums who actually care for their children nurture them and teach them morals and those who drag them up does it matter if they are single or why so long as their children are decent and they earn their own money what Business is it of yours
same goes for dad beat dads and good Fathers
who says marriage is a benefit ,
you are a bit old fashioned times have changed and women don’t put up with being slapped being kept short of money or having their fella bonking other women any more – our grannies had no choice , we do
