All About Grants For Single Mothers to Go to College

As a single mother, the thought of going back to college is almost going to be a daunting one. It is daunting to single mothers because its’ almost not possible for them to afford the college fees with their limited financial capabilities. Sometimes the daunting feeling translate into something else whereby single mothers totally forgo the thought of going back to college because it seem to be more like a distant dream to them. Single mothers face various challenges in taking care of the kids, paying for their child’s school fees, footing the house rental and bill, not forgetting the daily basic necessities. All these means things are likely to be really hard.

This is why the government feels it is necessary to give grants for single mothers to go to college. This will at least eliminate the problem of funding for college education for single mothers.

For a single mother, you will be more self dependant when you are able to get a better paying job. And that is more likely to happen when you have a qualified college education. This is what the government has in mind and thus decided to allocate up to 30 million as grants to the citizens especially single mothers. These grants are divided proportionately into different categories of people that include minors and single mothers.

The requirement for a single mother to claim the grants for single mothers to go to college is basically just provide proof that you are a single mother. Possible scenarios are you are divorced or your husband has passed away or you may have a child out of wedlock with the baby’s father leaving you two behind. You should be able to present proof in your application before you can claim the money you are eligible for. Fortunately there are special bodies in charge of grants for single mothers to go to college. These organizations help with the processes involved and they assist you till you receive your grant.

my first baby’s due November 4th and on November 10th my husband who’s in the marines is shipping off to Afghanistan for 6+ months. Right now my husband and i live in SC and our families are in Ohio. I plan on moving to ohio twards the end of november as long as i get the ok from my doctor (i want to make sure my son will be healthy enough to move at that time. if he has any health problems i’ll be staying here either until he’s healthy or just not going to ohio at all.)
anyways i’m so scared i won’t be able to do it by myself. i’ll have some help from my mom and mother in law but having a little help throughout the day is much different then having my husband around for the support i need.

please if anybody has any advice about how to stay strong and cope with “single motherhood” please share it with me!

Once your gorgeous little baby is here you will be fine. I think you are worrying too much, yes it may be difficult but plenty of women mange being a single mother all the time. I didnt have my partner with me when i had my son, and i managed. its not as difficult as people like to make out!

in fact, i now have a partner who is fantastic in every way and im pregnant again, but he causes more stress, and arguements over disipline (i think he’s too strict, he thinks i give in too easy) money (i have a week to pay for a pram, yet he spends what he likes on things we dont need!) i’m dreading baby being here and waking him up in the night and having to tiptoe around him (i appreciate that he works and wouldnt want to wake him, but i know he’ll be huffing and puffing when im stomping around at 3am with a crying baby!)

In some ways I quite liked being a single mum! It would be good for you to move closer to your family for your own sake, as it gets a bit boring talking to yourself all day, and it is nice to have a break from baby.

The stages of moving from one place to another could be one of the most difficult for a single mother and her children. This is the period when non-profit organizations actually step in to help with providing shelter and even food for single mothers.

The greatest problem women have however is the problem of not knowing where to go or who to talk to. If you are a single mother who needs housing assistance for single mothers, do not stay silent. If you do not know who to talk to, go on the internet and make a search, you will be amazed at how many resources are at your disposal. There are also organizations on the internet that will be willing to help in whatever way they can.

Single mom scholarships.  What a great idea, but are they really available?

As a single mother myself I have done a considerable amount of research on the topic of scholarships, grants, loans and other types of student financial aid. Here is what my research turned up.  As a single mom you basically have access to four different types of financial aid.

Work-Study Grants Scholarships Loans

Right from the start, you need to be aware that the first three options (work-study, grants and scholarships) are forms of financial aid that do not need to be repaid.

Loans, however, need to be repaid with interest.

This is an important point!  Recently I heard a report on National Public Radio documenting cases of abuse by “advisors” at some pretty well known online schools who were glossing over this fact and creating mountains of college loan debt for people just like you and me.  That is just not right!  Please be careful and don’t get yourself underwater with debt when there are other ways to fund your education.

The Beauty of Scholarships

The only financial aid option not always dependent on your household income is scholarships, which may be awarded based on a variety of qualifications including merit, race, gender and a host of other strange things. Did you know that there is a left handed scholarship?  Seriously!

In order to be eligible for the other forms of financial aid, you must prove financial need.

Scholarships for Single Moms Are Available

It’s interesting, I have found one scholarship specifically for mothers and moms and two others that moms are eligible for and the best part is all three scholarships require only the submission of some basic information rather than tedious essays, application forms and extensive research.

Each scholarship is for ,000 and the application process will only take you about nine minutes total for all three scholarships.  Another bonus is that these scholarships are awarded each and every month and that your name remains eligible for three months.
